The Closing ceremony of Summer Theatre Workshop to be held on 28th July, 2016 at 5-31pm at Sri Sri Madhavadeva Auditorium (300 capacity). In this programme the participants of the Theatre Workshop are performed ‘Akajali Abeg’ directed by vatern artist Pranjal Saikia.
The North Eastern Regional Centre of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Guwahati in collaboration with the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati, is organizing a Four-Day Workshop on ‘The Status of Unwritten and Endangered Languages of Assam’ from 17th to 20th March, 2016. The workshop will be held in the premises of the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati. The language loss or language death is a common factor in Assam which threatens the survival of entire linguistic and cultural existence of several smaller/minor speech communities. The speech of smaller/minor communities is often categorized as unofficial/unscripted languages. In result, that language are neglected and sidelined socially and institutionally. Again, minor and unofficial languages are discarded as they were regarded non-functional outside the home domain. This trend also expressed as ‘linguistic genocide’ that has lead to economic, political and social marginalization of the speakers of the minor and endangered languages. In the workshop, eight language groups of Assam will be participating through verbal presentations.
The inaugural function at 10.00 A.M. on 17th March, 2016 (Thursday) will be Chaired by Dr. Birendranath Datta, eminent Folklorist, while Dr. Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chencellor, Gauhati University and Dr. Richa Negi, Senior Assistant Professor & Coordinator of North East Programme, Indira Gandhi Nation Centre for the Arts, New Delhi will be the Chief Guest and Distinguished Guest, respectively.
