The Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society of Guwahati is organising the ‘Srimanta Sankaradeva 2nd international Festival 2017’ with the objective to highlight and promote the contributions and achievements of the great saint of Assam of 15th and 16th century, Srimanta Sankaradeva in the national and international spheres. A group of around eleven Danish and French artistes from Europe would take part in the Festival which is going to be held on the second week of the New Year, i.e. 5 to 10 January 2017. Last year, in the same series of festival, Sankaradeva’s Parijat Haran Naat was enacted in French Language by artistes from Central Europe and was a grand success. Continuing the same trend, the main attraction of this year’s event would be the performance of Ram Vijoy, another play composed by the saint, in Danish language by the artistes from Europe. This effort has been made to extend the limits of the creation of the saint as we as the cultural heritage of the state to the other parts of the globe. Apart from the play, there would be other programme and activities like Fair, Exhibition and performances of music and dances related to saint.
An International Seminar on the subject ‘Srimanta Sankaradeva: Synthesizer of Spirituality, Economics and Culture’ is also being organised on the occasion from 5th to 7th January 2017. Scholar from University of Guanajuato, Mexico would take part in the seminar. The sub-themes of the seminar are- i) Sankaradeva –a spiritual Revolutionary, ii) Sankaradeva –Emancipator of the common masses, iii) Sankaradeva –A Cultural Protagonist, iv) Sankaradeva – His economic sense for social uplift and v) Sankaradeva –His Multidimensionality.
